Do you find yourself having apple pie for breakfast, or a full thanksgiving dinner, days after the actual holiday?
It can be very challenging to get back on track after a holiday, so here are some tips I’ve been sharing with my clients this past week.
First of all, I recommend eating what you want on a holiday like thanksgiving. Its hard to not stuff yourself, but do pay attention to your portions and try to stay clear of the sick and stuffed feeling. So, you’ve enjoyed the day, now what? Its common to feel guilty after a day of indulgence, and that can lead to a feeling of, “What the heck, I’ve already blown my diet, damage has been done, whats the use in trying to eat better now, won’t make a difference, right?”
Wrong!
One day is no big deal, but if it turns into many days, 3, 4 or even a week, well, yes its much harder to turn things around, but it can still be done.
Ok, here are the tips for the day after the holiday:
- No more desserts. Get rid of them, throw them away, hide them, you get the point.
- Drink tons of water
- Eat your regular breakfast and snacks during the day
- at 1-2 meals per day only, and preferably after a workout, eat your protein, veggies, and choose only one starch and eat your correct portion of it. For example: leftover turkey, green beans, and you choose one starch (biscuit, potatoes, OR stuffing)
If you truly enjoyed what you ate on the actual holiday, it shouldn’t be too hard to follow these tips above. Most people feel like they are actually ready to eat healthier and cleaner after a day of indulgence.
Ok, its only a short time till Christmas, so get back on track and clean up your nutrition for these next few weeks. You’ll feel better and be happy you did!
